I think I am going to get rid of session_start() as well. I have not used it in years and I seem to remember that for some reason it can get corrupted on my site and cause havoc. I need to look into it to find out why that is though.
Since I am the primary user of my site I am starting by going through and editing the most commonly used files that make up the most commonly used pages on my site. This includes the memo blog, main page, and especially the news page.
