I just finished X–23: 1 and I was not disappointed.  I loved the artwork and how it didn't trivialize the depths of her personality.  Her quiet brooding was also captured in the story telling as we see her dual nature of displaying almost no emotion, but has hurricanes of emotion and confusion were still raging inside of her.  As a bonus there is an afterward that summarizes the events in her life as well as the order of them which I had spent so much time trying to deduce.

There is no real story or event told in this issue.  She has had many prior to this series and the goal of this series, at least to start, is to focus on Laura's growth as a person.  To start she revisits her friends, the X–Men, but her old team mates from New X–Men do not seem to friendly towards her except for hellion and anole.  The adult X–Men seem to respect her, but she sees it mostly as condescension.  She may be lacking in social skills, but she is not a child.

All in all, it was everything I hoped for and more .
