I'm close to being done finding all of the best posts on the DOMA and Prop.8 cases that were before the U.S. Supreme Court. I want to go through what I have found a little more closely and then explain the significance of these two cases and why this is considered the most important case(s) before the U.S. Supreme Court in the last 100 years or so.
As a preview I can say that if these cases are handled poorly the power structure in our government will be upset. The President or governor can choose to veto any law he chooses gy simply not enforcing it and the U.S. Supreme Court can make legislate whatever it wants since the U.S. Constitution can mean anything on any given day. If that happens the U.S as we know it will cease to exist.
